Beacon Lighting — Full Commercial Glazing
Smart Doors & Windows was engaged by NHI Group to deliver a complete commercial glazing package for Beacon Lighting’s retail showroom and trade centre in Norlane, Victoria. This large-scale project involved the design, fabrication, and installation of a full-height aluminium curtain wall system, shopfront glazing with Viridian SuperBlue glass, automatic sliding entrance doors, and structural framing — transforming the building’s facade into a modern, energy-efficient storefront that became a flagship location for the national retailer.
The Challenge
With frame fabrication already complete, Viridian discontinued the specified SuperBlue glass. Changing glass would deviate from the architectural specification, while waiting risked significant delay — and the site could not remain unglazed while internal trades needed to continue.
Our Response
Drawing on an established relationship with Viridian, the SDW team tracked down a remaining batch of SuperBlue glass held in a Queensland warehouse. Transport to Melbourne would take around two weeks — too long for the site to remain open.
The Solution
SDW installed clear glass temporarily, enclosing the building and allowing internal trades to continue while the specified glass was in transit — absorbing the additional cost to ensure the project delivery deadline was met. Once the SuperBlue glass arrived, SDW returned to site, removed the temporary glazing, and installed the specified product.
The Outcome
The architectural specification was achieved and NHI Group’s satisfaction with SDW’s responsiveness helped establish an ongoing working relationship. Following this project’s success, Smart Doors and Windows became a preferred window supplier for Beacon Lighting nationally.

Exterior Facade & Storefront
The Beacon Lighting storefront received a complete aluminium and glass facade system. Our team installed full-height glazing panels, commercial-grade aluminium framing, and weather-sealed shopfront entries — creating a sleek, modern appearance that maximises natural light and product visibility.
On-Site Installation Team
Our skilled installers worked at height using scissor lifts and mast platforms, fitting heavy glass panels into precision-cut aluminium frames. Every joint was structurally sealed and aligned to millimetre tolerances, ensuring weatherproofing and long-term structural integrity.
Curtain Wall & Structural Glazing
The interior curtain wall system spans the full width and height of the commercial space. Floor-to-ceiling glass panels were installed into heavy-duty aluminium mullions and transoms, creating transparent internal partitions that flood the retail space with natural daylight.
Elevated Work & Precision Fitting
Working at height with scissor lifts and ladders, our team installed upper-level framing, sealed perimeter glazing, and completed fascia trim work. Every panel was checked for plumb, level, and seal integrity before sign-off.
Completed Installation
